ABOUT PIRATBRIDGE

A family card game

Piratbridge.dk was built by Oliver, who learned the game from his partner's family. Here is the story behind the site.

A game from the family

I was introduced to Piratbridge by my partner's family ten years ago. Since then it has become a regular part of life, both with them and with my own family. On Christmas Eve we play the traditional Christmas Eve game, and there is great prestige in winning it. We also play it at birthdays and other family gatherings, and when we're together at the summer house.

Why I love the game

The best thing about Piratbridge is the strategy. It isn't about getting the most tricks, but about making exactly the number you bid. You make a plan based on your own cards and what you think the others will bid, and you adjust your style of play once the bids are revealed. You can be lucky or unlucky with the cards, but there is always a choice in how you play them.

And then there's the double game: you have to take your own tricks while also trying to make your opponents miss theirs.

Over the years we've had many iconic moments. Like when someone in the family bid three tricks even though they were holding the four highest cards in the game. Or the one-card round where one of us had the ace of trump stuck to their forehead and bid 0 tricks, because they could see someone else holding a small trump. It's those funny and unforgettable moments that make you love the game.

The game is simple to learn, and there are many variants and interpretations of it. Many people know the basic game, but each plays it with their own twist.

Why piratbridge.dk?

It's often hard to make the logistics work so everyone can meet up. I dream that you can always get a game going with your friends and family, whether it's on a weekday, at the weekend or on vacation, without having to sit at the same table.

A big part of the game is the social side. That's why one of my goals is to keep improving the experience, so that one day it feels like you're sitting together and playing.

Help make the game better

I built the game myself from scratch and want to create the best experience, so that as many people as possible enjoy it. That's why I welcome all the help I can get:

  • Send feedback with the "Feedback" button in the menu when you're logged in, or write to hello@piratbridge.dk.
  • Share the game with your friends and family.
  • Tell us about your rules and variants, so the game can be expanded with them.
